Possible Coyote Sightings in the Bluff Heights Area (Updated 7/3/12)

There have been additional reported sightings of coyotes in the Bluff Heights area recently (along Vista St.) and at least one coyote-related animal incident. BHNA has notified Long Beach Animal Care Services (LBACS) of this possibility so that they can be on alert for any future sightings and/or incidents. LBACS confirms we do have coyotes in several areas throughout the City, with the potential for them to show up in many different areas at any time.

Please immediately report all coyote sightings to LBACS (562) 570-7387 any time of day. Or you can e-mail them at AnimalControl.Dispatch@longbeach.gov.

Some quick tips:

  • Bring all pets inside from dusk to dawn.
  • Always walk your dog on a leash no longer than 6ft.
  • Never leave small children unattended outside.
  • If you happen to encounter a coyote while you are outside, make very loud noises to scare it away. Remember coyotes are naturally afraid of humans.

More information on how to deal with this situation and protect yourself, your family and your pets can be found on the enclosed link from the Long Beach Animal Care Services website:
