July 4th Block Party Almost Here!

Help Us Kick off the Summer of 2017!

All residents of Bluff Heights are invited to the Annual July 4th Block Party on E Vista (between Orizaba and Obispo) on Tuesday, July 4 from Noon – 4:30pm to kick off the summer. Come out and show your patriotic spirit and reconnect with old neighbors and friends, or meet some new ones. Some of your old favorite activities will be there — like the cake walk and the dunk tank — plus there will be some new fun surprises. (Bring a Beach Chair and Sunscreen!)

Here’s the latest event schedule:

12:00 – 12:15 –  Opening Ceremonies
12:15 – 12:45  – Patriotic Parade – Bikes and Dogs Welcome ~ Free Bike & Dog Decorating
12:30 – 4:30  – Potluck Picnic
12:00 – 2:00  – Craft Booth
1:30 – 2:00  – Water Balloon Toss
2:00 – 2:15  – Cake Walk Judging *
2:15 – 3:30  – Cake Walk
3:30 – 4:00  – Watermelon Eating Contest
4:00 -4:30  – Closing Ceremonies & Opportunity Drawing

All Day:

Chili Tasting Contest (Meat & Vegetarian options) *

* Enter the Chili Contest by bringing a working large Crock Pot containing your Super Secret and Special Chili. Meat and Vegetarian options are welcome! Bring your chili early (12:30-1:00) to get the most votes!
* Enter the Cake Walk by Baking/Bringing a Patriotic Cake

Here’s the potluck schedule:

Based on the first letter of your last name, please bring the following for the group potluck:

A – G: Desserts
H – M: Beverages (Bottled Water, Soda or Juice)
N – T: Salads & Side Dishes
U – Z: Main Course (Entrees & Casseroles, etc.)

Gourmet and Standard Hot Dogs will be available for a small donation.

We Need Volunteers, Sponsors & Donations!

This event cannot be accomplished without the generous volunteer help and financial support of Bluff Heights residents and our local businesses. BHNA needs volunteers for various activities throughout the day on the 4th (setting up, staffing activities, helping take down everything, etc.). 

Even if you are not available on the 4th, but would still like to volunteer your time before the event, please let us know. Give us 30 minutes or 1 hour of your time!

BHNA Spring 2017 Neighborhood Forum

Please join us on Wednesday, April 26th at 7:00 P.M. for our quarterly neighborhood forum.


The BHNA Spring 2017 Neighborhood Forum will be held at the newly renovated Immanuel Community Center, located at Northeast corner of 3rd Street and Obispo Avenue.   If you are curious about this wonderful historic redevelopment, now is your chance to see the inside of the building and have a short tour.  Representatives from our East Division police as well as our 2nd and 3rd district council districts will be in attendance to provide updates.  Featured topics will include: Lawn 2 Garden makeovers and West Nile & Zika Virus in Long Beach.
