Long Beach Art Deco Walking Tour and Wine Tasting

Join us on Sunday, October 25th from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. as we take a walk through beautiful downtown Long Beach with Bluff Heights’ own local hero, Art Deco historian and preservationist, John Thomas.

This event will showcase the wealth of buildings that were built in the Art Deco and Streamline Modern Styles of the 1920s and 1930s. Featured will be: The Arts Building, Metro Apartment Building, Rowen/Bradley Building, the US Post Office Building, and the WPA Mural. Participants will be able to view the inside of the Lafaytte Building, built in 1929. The facades of several of Long Beach’s buildings were replaced with these new styles following the 1933 earthquake.

Meet in the lobby of the historic Lafayette Hotel, 140 Linden. Enjoy hors d’oeuvres & a complimentary glass of wine at DISTRICT WINE following the tour. Tickets include a signed copy of Long Beach Art Deco. Tickets are $50 and may be purchased with PayPal on our website: or by calling 562-493-7019. Hope to see you there!

We Need Volunteers, Sponsors & Donations!

This event cannot be accomplished without the generous volunteer help and financial support of Bluff Heights residents and our local businesses. BHNA needs volunteers for various activities throughout the day on the 4th (setting up, staffing activities, helping take down everything, etc.). Even if you are not available on the 4th, but would still like to volunteer your time before the event, please let us know. We welcome all the help we can get!

To volunteer, sponsor or donate just email us at or call (562) 546-3067.

Keep checking back for any changes in our 4th of July activities here on the BHNA website and our Facebook page.

See you on the 4th!

Bluff Heights Neighborhood Tree Planting on Saturday, May 9 at 9am

Please join a team of neighbors, city staff, and volunteers to plant donated trees in our wonderful neighborhood. Trees reduce greenhouse gases, provide habitat, reduce cooling costs, and increase property values. You can help make a difference! All tools and supplies provided.

Click here to read the flyer that gives more details and thanks our local volunteers: I Dig LB Bluff Heights Tree Planting

The Port of Long Beach has provided funding to plant 6,000 trees in Long Beach neighborhoods through 2020! Businesses and community groups are partnering with Neighborhood Services to provide volunteers at the tree planting events.

Neighborhood Services is partnering with the BLUFF HEIGHTS NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION and the JUNIOR LEAGUE OF LONG BEACH to plant 70-85 trees:
Saturday, May 9, 2015
9:00 am – Noon
Meeting Location: Arabic Bible Church 3000 E. 3rd Street

The tree planting will be held in the neighborhood bounded by:
3rd Street (north),
Broadway (south),
Junipero Avenue (west), and
Orizaba Avenue (east)

Hope to see you!

Bluff Heights Feeds!

The Bluff Heights Neighborhood Association would like to thank all who participated in the inaugural “Bluff Heights Feeds” Food Drive. Our collection box located at B&B Restoration Hardware Store, on behalf of the “Help Me/Help You” Food Bank, was near full. You can see all the carry bags filled with canned goods destined for those who are needy right here in Long Beach.

BHNA will continue to reach out to those less fortunate than ourselves as part of its mission. Once again, “Cheers” to all who made a canned food donation, and let’s try to double our giving again next year. Happy Holidays!

Thanks for your help and support!
