About the Event

This informative, docent-led walking tour will explore the early human settlement of native tribes as well as early Twentieth Century history of our Bluff Heights neighborhood while strolling Broadway from Redondo to Junipero highlighting many local historical landmarks along the way.

DID YOU KNOW: Long Beach was once part of the most sophisticated electric railway system ever built: The Pacific Electric.

“Railway Street,” now known as “Broadway,” was one of the very first railway spurs after the Pacific Electic arrived in Long Beach (from Los Angeles) on July 4th, 1902. Our tour will stop to see our historic interpretive panel at JugBand so you can learn about the interesting history of the Bungalow Grocery and other historic treasures along Broadway. We'll also quickly explore the Lowena Drive historic district before ending around lunchtime with refreshments and a light picnic social at Bixby Park's Saturday farmers’ market.
